Fagaras

Work on the wooden fortress began in the 13th century. Stone replaced the wood in the 14th and 15th centuries. The fortress and the castle were built by the second half of the 16th century.

Sambata de Jos (Bruckenthal Castle and Stables- Lipizzan Horses)






Homorod (Hamruden)

Romanic church built in the 13th century and modified in the 15th century.
The first walls around the church were built in the 15th century. It seems the fortress was never conquered by invadors. During attacks people would take refuge there for weeks at a time.




















Racos (Sükösd-Bethlen Castle)

The Transylvanian Renaissance castle was built in 1625, and it was Count Sükösd's residence.










Slimnic (Stolzenburg)

The first walls of the fortress were built in the 12th century, at the time of the great Tatar invasion, out of uncut stone. In the 15th century the walls were rebuilt out of red brick. The walls of the church are located on the Northern side of the fortress.

Rasnov (Rosenau)

The fortress was built by Teutonic Knights and strenghthened by the people of the area to defend from Tartars. It is first mentioned in documents from 1331. Along with Brasov (Kronstadt), they were the only fotresses to resist the great Tartar invasion.
